Highest Bungee Jump in Central America
Making the steps out onto the platform, the world all seems a bit muffled - heavy rainforest winds, clouds filling the sky on one side of me, open sky and a vibrant rainbow on the other. Being in the middle of the cloud forest of Monteverde also means getting a bit wet from the mist, but all of these things were just background noise - I was about to do the biggest bungee jump in Central America!
After signing our lives away on a waiver acknowledging that we are in fact choosing to jump into the abyss of the cloud forest, we took a ride on the tram to get to the middle of the drop - 143 meters above ground.
The professionals are there to ease your mind and ensure that you understand all of the safety procedures. Harness on, leg straps tightened, hands shaking… check, check and check! A few short steps and I’m ready to go at the edge of the platform, without having 5 seconds to overthink what I was about to do, the countdown began - 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…. BUNGEE!!
I don’t think I could even begin to explain the scream that came out of my mouth - somewhere between a crying goat and a child on a rollercoaster! It was nothing short of ridiculous sounding. Before I could register that I was falling I started bouncing from my feet and all I could see was a beautiful rainbow and cloudy rainforest, upside down.
Before too much blood rushed to my head I saw the cable being dropped down that I hooked onto my waist harness and began my journey back up to the stable ground. What a rush! I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing as I got pulled onto the platform - filled with a sense of pride, accomplishment and of course - adrenaline! I know what you’re thinking - I must be an adrenaline junkie if I want to throw myself off a platform in the middle of the rainforest.
You’re wrong! I’d never done anything like it, the way I see it is you should do at least one thing in your life to scare you every once in awhile. I got my adrenaline fill for awhile, however the guy who went in my group has gone skydiving 9 times and was ready to jump again as soon as he came back up. Adrenaline junkie or not, experiencing bungee jumping in the Monteverde Cloud Forest was truly a once in a lifetime experience!
Extremo Park was a very professional, safe company with a great reputation and I was really glad I chose them to make the jump with. So what are you waiting for? 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... BUNGEE!!
